The 50th anniversary of Earth Day doesn't take place until April, but Albion College starts the celebration in March, thanks to a major gift from Bruce Harper, '67, and his wife Jane. The Harpers gave more than $100,000 to Albion College for climate change education and action, and to commemorate Earth Day. All events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Center for Sustainability and the Environment at 517/629- 0361 or see their Facebook page.
Thursday, March 19 Chip Fletcher (Horton Lecture) Charles “Chip” Fletcher, ’79, is an associate dean and professor in the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. His research focuses on Pacific paleo-sea level history, beach processes, and modeling the impacts of past, present, and future sea-level rise on island environments and communities. The results of his work are used by government agencies for administering the coastal policy, establishing construction guidelines, and planning resilient infrastructure projects. 7 p.m., Norris Science Center Towsley Hall
