Description:

Author and cartoonist Thi Bui and Michigan filmmaker Alan Headbloom bring compelling stories of the Vietnamese-American experience in two presentations on Thursday, September 26, at Albion College.
Bui discusses her moving graphic memoir The Best We Could Do on Thursday, September 26, at 1 p.m. in The College’s Goodrich Chapel. Bui's book explores her family’s immigration as refugees after the Vietnam War, how they built new lives for themselves, and what it means to be a parent. The Best We Could Do was a finalist at the National Book Critics Circle and Eisner Awards and Bill Gates selected it as one of his top five books of 2017. Bui's illustrations in the book A Different Pond won a Caldecott Award. She’s currently working on a graphic nonfiction book on the impact of detention and deportation on Asian American Pacific Islanders.
