Description: The Robert E. Horton Geology Alumni Speaker Series presents Albion
College alumnus Mark Longman ‘72. The title of his lecture is
“Revisiting the Upper Cretaceous Niobrara Petroleum System in the Rocky
Mountain Region.” The lecture will be at 7 pm on Thursday, 3/21, in
Norris Hall 102. Everyone is invited to attend.

Mark received a B.A. degree from Albion College in 1972 with a double
major in geology and biology. He then attended the University of Texas
in Austin where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1976. He has spent his career
in the oil industry and is currently an independent consulting
geologist specializing in the integration of sedimentology and rock
characterization with oil reservoir studies and rock physics. He is
also a Research Associate at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in
Denver, Colorado

The annual Robert E. Horton Geology Alumni Speaker Series is funded by
an anonymous gift to the Albion College Geology Department. The series
is named in honor of local alumnus Robert E. Horton, who was born in
Parma, Michigan, in 1875 and graduated with a B.S. from Albion College
in 1897. Horton’s seminal work in the first half of the 20th century
on quantifying the hydrologic cycle has led the American Geophysical
Union and the American Meteorological Society to recognize Horton as
the father of modern hydrology.
