Schuler Arts Announces New Class Series February—March—April
Beginning in February Schuler Arts will offer special introductory art classes on the first Saturday in the months of February, March and April. Class sessions will be intergenerational with participants ranging from 8 to 98 years of age and will be taught by talented, seasoned instructors. Classes will be approximately 2-hours in length and are expected to fill rapidly.
Additional classes will also be offered Thursday morning, afternoon and evening. These will be ongoing weekly classes that can be joined at any time. Call for details.

Feb. 4th 10:00 AM Drawings Done a Different Way—Exploring Your Creative Abilities Instructor—John Walton Cost $35 Learn new ways to think about the art of drawing through a variety of unique techniques and art tools. No previous drawing experience in needed. Students will complete and take home several amazing art creations. 10:00 AM Shabby Chic Fabric Flowers—Creative Embellishments Instructor—Tracey Howard Cost $35 Using colorful fabric, glue guns, scissors and other hand tools and materials students will make distinctive art blossoms perfect for almost anything—baby headbands, hair accessories, wreaths, towels, clothing or gift box embellishments, etc.
2:00 PM Still Life Impressions---Exploring With Paint Instructor—Maureen Reed Cost $35 Explore the endless design possibilities created with acrylic and watercolor paints using fruits, vegetables and other simple forms. Composition basics will be highlighted as students complete an abstract still life in the afternoon workshop.
2:00 PM Valentine Creations in Glass—HEART Designs Instructor—Bobbie VanEck Cost $35 Students will learn about the art of fusing glass - how artists design, cut, nip and join together glass elements to create a one-of-a-kind heart pendant, perfect for Valentine's Day. Each participate will arrange small glass pieces to make a beautiful Valentine creation and their glass designs will be kiln-fired and available for pick-up the following Saturday.
March 4th 10:00 AM Van Gogh and the Sunflowers—A Unique Printing Process Instructor—Joan Larson Cost $35 Come and learn about the artist, Vincent Van Gogh and create your own dramatic sunflower design using oil pastels and paint. You will amaze yourself and others as you create a one-of-a-kind art piece through a unique printing process. All skill levels welcome, supplies included.
10:00 PM Portraits and Pastels—Explore Your Creative Side Instructor—Jerome Washington Cost $35 Learn to draw a portrait likeness, figures and forms using a variety of pastel techniques and art tools. Students will complete and take home several unique art creations. No experience is required.
2:00 AM Glass Fusing—Decorative Pendants Instructor—Bobbie VanEck Cost $35 Students will learn about the art of fusing glass - how artists design, cut, nip and join together glass elements to create a beautiful one-of-a-kind pendant. Each participate will arrange small glass pieces to make their pendant and their glass designs will be kiln-fired and available for pick-up the following Saturday.
2:00 PM Beginning Handbuilding & Wheel Throwing—Unravel The Mystery Instructor—Nobel Schuler Cost $35 Become comfortable working with clay through simple handbuilding techniques and then unravel the mystery of making pottery by exploring basic techniques of working at the potter's wheel. Clay creations will be kiln-fired and available the following Saturday.
April 1st 10:00 AM Glass Fusing—Plant Stake Designs Instructor—Bobbie VanEck Cost $35 Students will learn about the art of fusing glass - how artists design, cut, nip and join together glass elements to create a decorative glass plant stake. Each participate will arrange small glass pieces to make their one-of-a-kind stake and their glass designs will be kiln-fired and available for pick-up the following Saturday.
10:00 PM Advanced Wheel Throwing Techniques—Taking Risks Instructor—Aaron Cole Cost $35 This class is for intermediate and advanced students with enough experience to comfortably center and throw basic forms and wish to take their skills to the next level. Aaron will reveal tips learned over years as a professional potter and instructor at the Ann Arbor Art Center.
2:00 PM Drawing Basics in Pastel—Personalized Expressions Instructor—Nobel Schuler Cost $35 This class will introduce students to the essential information needed to draw using the pastel medium and will explore fundamentals of light, shadow, texture and color as students create a personalized composition.
2:00 PM Watercolor Splash—Traditional and non-traditional techniques Instructor—Maureen Reed Cost $35 Experience the exciting medium of watercolor without the usual prerequisites; no drawing or painting skills are required and you will get right to work mixing colors and exploring design creatively. Relax, learn and enjoy as you splash into your creative side.

10:00-12:00 Noon Morning Mud-Clay Class Instructor—Nobel Schuler Cost: $20 Awaken your artistic self with a splash of java, juice and creativity. This is a beginning ceramics class for adult students who want a creative start to their day. Students will explore a variety of ceramic techniques and processes in a casual, friendly studio environment.
1:00-4:00PM Open Studio—For Adults Instructor—Nobel Schuler Cost: $25 This class provides a flexible schedule for artistic exploration in the area of your choice-- draw, paint or work in clay. Learn at your own pace in a friendly, creative atmosphere with helpful suggestions and teaching demonstrations available upon request. Materials are provided depending on the activity and depth of involvement.
6:00-9:00PM Open Studio—For Adults Instructor—Nobel Schuler Cost: $25 This class provides a flexible schedule for artistic exploration in the area of your choice-- draw, paint or work in clay. Learn at your own pace in a friendly, creative atmosphere with helpful suggestions and teaching demonstrations available upon request.
