ALBION, Mich. – On Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30pm, the Albion College Music Department will host the first of two guest recitals opening up the Ninth Annual Piano Festival. The guest for this concert will be Barry Snyder, professor at the Eastman School of Music and Silver Medalist at the 1966 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
The first half of the recital will feature Albion faculty members Clayton Parr, tenor, and Lia Jenson-Abbott, piano. Their portion of the recital is titled “An Ironic Recital: Multiple Meanings in Songs from Mozart to Hamilton.” They purposely picked pieces where a few things might be happening. Either the piece of music doesn’t fit the words, the words being sung have other or double meanings, or the audience’s expectations are otherwise subverted. Their portion will prove to be educational and comical!
The second half will feature guest artist and clinician Barry Snyder. This is the third time Professor Snyder has appeared for the Piano Festival He is a wonderful artist and contributes greatly to the students’ progress. His portion of the program will feature works by Bach, Beethoven, Messiaen, and ends with a wonderful piece by Rachmaninoff. Prof. Snyder’s playing is something that should not be missed!
